Specialties / Trauma & Family of Origin

The family you came from
shapes everything.

Not as an excuse. As an explanation — and a starting point for changing what you inherited.

"Most people come in presenting one problem. What we find is almost always the same: it leads back to what happened at home."

Family of origin work isn't nostalgia. It's not about blaming your parents forever. It's about understanding the patterns that were installed before you were old enough to choose them — and deciding, as an adult, what you want to keep.

I've worked in wilderness therapy, residential treatment, and private practice for 15 years. The through-line in almost every case: unfinished business with family. Emotional dynamics never named. Roles assigned and never questioned.

This work isn't comfortable. But it's the thing that actually changes the pattern instead of managing it.

What we often work through
  • Emotional incest & parentification
  • Enmeshment and boundary collapse
  • Childhood neglect or emotional unavailability
  • Addiction running through the family system
  • Relational patterns tracing to family roles
  • Unspoken rules still running the show
Who tends to seek this
  • High-achievers who can't figure out why they're still stuck
  • Adults navigating difficult parent relationships
  • People repeating patterns across relationships
  • Teenagers still inside the system

If this is landing, a free 20-minute consultation is the right first step. No commitment.

How I approach this work

01
Start with the present
Not history first. We begin with what's actually happening now. The past comes in when it starts explaining the present.
02
I'll name things directly
I won't let you talk around something for 12 sessions. If I see a pattern, I'll say it carefully but clearly. That's the work.
03
Relational, not protocol
No workbook, no module. The change happens in the conversation — in what comes up and what you decide to do differently.

"What happened in your family isn't ancient history. It's the operating system you're still running. We're not here to dwell on it — we're here to update it."
